Here are some tips for staying hydrated as you get older.
Drink Water Throughout Each Day
Even if you think you drink a lot of water, you’re probably still not drinking enough. As a general rule, you should be drinking one ounce of water for every pound you weigh. While this may seem like more water than you can handle, spreading that amount out throughout the day will help. Additionally, replacing soda and coffee with water will benefit your health in a variety of ways.
Make Water More Enjoyable
If you don’t enjoy drinking water, look for ways to make it more pleasant. You can start by taking small sips more frequently rather than trying to gulp down large amounts at once. Additionally, add a fruit that you like to your water. For example, you can put strawberries or raspberries in bottled water to give it a sweeter taste. For something with a little more bite, squirt lemon or lime juice into your water.
Bring Water With You
When you go shopping, take a walk, or meet friends, bring a bottle of water with you. This is an excellent practice for the spring and summer when perspiration will cause you to become dehydrated more quickly. If you have water with you, a sip every once in a while will help you chase away your thirst. It will also give your body the moisture it needs for the increased activity. When you run out of water, go to a drinking fountain or restroom sink to refill it.
